Christiane Langer- Graphite and Photography
Christiane Langer, a wildlife artist and nature photographer, grew up in Germany where, thanks to her parents, she early on developed a love for and appreciation of the arts.  Her father taught her about the wonders of the natural world, and how to capture the beauty that surrounds us with a camera.
Christiane expresses her passion for nature through different media and sometimes incorporates her own poetry.  However, drawing with graphite pencils remains her favorite.  Though largely self-taught, she took lessons in drawing and etching from German artist Bernd Baldus.  She had shows in Germany where she was also commissioned to draw peoples' pets.  After her move to the United States in 1995 she has shown her work in Oklahoma and New York State.  She has won several awards for her art and photography among which was first place in the photography category in last  year's art show of the Art Association of Northern New York.  Christiane now lives in Omar, NY.

Artist's Statement:

Through my art and photography I try to create awareness of the miraculous beauty and the importance of the natural world, not just in far-away places but in our own backyard.  My hope is to share my passion and appreciation for all things living, so people feel compelled to protect it for future generations.

Lynn Newman

Pastels and Watercolors

Lynn Newman, a north country native since the age of five, graduated from General Brown High School, Dexter NY and Jefferson Community College. Majoring in art in 1975 and  accounting in 1985, she is currently Office Manager at Lyng's Office Center. Her true  passion, however, is the arts.  Awards in photography, as well as pastels, have motivated her to persue her dream of being an artist. In addition to painting she also enjoys gardening, as evidenced by her flowers becoming many of her subject matters. She is also very active as a board member of the Arts Association of NNY.

Lynn lives in Watertown, NY and is blessed with a daughter and her husband, Amanda and Jason DesJardins, a son Christopher and three grandsons, Logan, Ben and Caleb DesJardins.

Donna Strejlau

Donna has been a local resident most of her life and graduated from General Brown High School and Jefferson Community College.  Having worked in the OB/GYN medical field for over 30 years, she is expanding her knowledge base by working on a degree in Business Administration on a part-time basis.  Currently she is the Office Manager at the office of E. Darryl Barnes, M.D., Physician to Women, P.C.

Her interest in art started at an early age with a pencil and a sketchbook.  Those interests expanded over the years to include sewing/quilting, doily crocheting, ceramics, Ukranian egg painting, tole painting, stained glass, pierced lampshades, photography and watercolors.  She even dabbled in glass bead making, oils, and clay flower making.  But it was that one demonstration she participated in at the North Country Artists Guild a few years back that changed the direction of her media—pastels.  She found this medium forgiving and full of possibilities.  Although she says had she realized the degree of mess factor, she may have invested in Baby Wipe stock a long time ago!  She has enjoyed trying the new Pan Pastels as well as favorites NuPastels, Unison and Sennelier in her pastel creations.

Donna has been a member of AANNY since its inception and has served on its Board most of those years in different capacities.  She is award winning in pastel, stained glass, and sketching at the AANNY Annual Art Shows.  She’s proud to say her donation to the 2007 AANNY Annual Art Auction, pastel “Harbor Dusk”, captured the unsurpassed sale price of $1750.  Most recently, her pastel entitled “Yellowstone’s Pallet” was accepted and shown at the 2008 National Northeast Pastel Show in Old Forge.
